HISTORY

Today, one of the old machines is left standing as a garden decoration at the holiday home. The old circular brick kiln at the right, has
been replaced by a row of summer chalets
just above Norreborg
harbour

An important part of Hven's history is the history of brick and tile making.
Its golden age was from around the turn of the century up to about 1930. Declining thereafter it died out with the onslaught of the second world war. At its height, the island supported some 2000 inhabitants and boasted 6 taverns and 5 shops

Well there still is an abundance of good taverns or restaurants,
but only one regular store.
The inhabitants of today numbers about 370, in summer maybe a thousand.

Pretty well nothing remains of that old era today, except the echos of all the BrickWorks transformed into dams or ponds and the ubiquitous worn down brick-rests scattered about the beaches.
